Dear Mike:

On behalf of the Arkansas Adult Probation and Parole Association, I would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to you for being part of our conference.  You have no idea how many of our critiques following the conference stated that the reason they came to the conference was to hear you speak.  Without organizations and speakers such as yourself, the AAPPA would be unable to provide the quality training we strive to provide.  Once again, thank you for the time and effort put into being a part of our conference.

Sincerely,
Linda Rockwell
AAPPA Secretary

Hey Mike just wanted to see how ya'll are doing. I heard that you went to the North Central Unit. I hear it's nice up there. I don't know if you heard but I was involved in a big ordeal in Craighead County and I am no longer in the Law Enforcement or Corrections field, not by choice, it's hard to get hired when you have been involved in a F.B.I. investigation. I'm know working in fire protection (sprinkler systems). Anyway I hope you and your family are doing well.

I was impressed with your class that you taught at MAPC in Natchez.
I have spoken with several of our people on the importance of all staff at SMCI to be aware of where they work and who they work around.

The video that you showed in your class of your friend, was very heart wrenching.  I would like for you to be able to come here and share your story.  If there is any way I can help with this endeavor, I will.

Sincerely,
Vivian Hoeflich

Mike,

I just wanted to tell you that I'm testing for the Arkansas State Police Nov. 2. I guess i will follow in my mom's foot steps. After that about a week later we are being certified with the taser at the detention center. We had a incident the other night where a Jonesboro Police officer brought a prisoner in that was very 10-32 and disorderly. He took the cuffs off of the subject. Myself and the oic on night shift was walking down the booking hallway and this subject decided to take off in a full sprint towards us. The only thing i knew to do was to put my elbow in the middle of his chest. Well this is what happen and the inmate hit the ground like a fallen tree. Something that I didn't understand one night dispatch called and advised that JPD was on the way with a drunk that had kicked the back window of the officer's unit. When he pulled in the sally port sure enough the back glass was shattered. We took him straight to the drunk tank. As we were taking the cuffs off of him I discovered a lock blade knife in his right pocket. I yelled to the other officers assisting me that he had a knife. I secured the knife in my duty belt and left the tank. I always thought it was standard to search anyone before they are put in the back of a police car. I hope this finds you doing well. Tell Lt. Ball I said hi, Oh yea and Mr. Williams.

Hi Mike:  I just wanted to tell you how much I enjoyed your class at MAPC.  I work in the training department at SMCI in Leakesville and I thought about our new employees as they come through the academy and the fact that some of them do not take the classes seriously;  the annual refresher classes that are required for security employees, they also need a reminder. We have been fortunate in not having a fatality as this facility. The presentation was interesting and definitely a reality check. All employees in a correctional facility should attend your class and view the film. I'm so sorry about your friend and I have thought of him often since that class.

Thank you again and take care

Mike,

I attended your presentation on Officer Survival in Natchez, MS at the MAPC Conference. I Just wanted you to know again, how impressed I was with your presentation. Not only the content but the passion and dedication to your work that are evident during your talk. You have been added to my list of heroes.  After your presentation, I had a lump in my throat and a scary feeling for you being back inside a facility.

Please take your own advise, and be CAREFUL!

MIKE,

I WANT TO THANK YOU FOR THE TRAINING AND INFORMATION THAT YOU PROVIDED FOR ME. YOU ARE AN EXCELLENT TEACHER AND OTHERS WILL BENEFIT FROM YOUR TRAINING. THERE HAS BEEN ONE OR TWO OCCASIONS WHERE I HAVE HAD TO USE THE DEFENSIVE TACTICS TRAINING THAT I LEARNED FROM YOU. I HAVE TOLD SEVERAL PEOPLE IN THE LAW ENFORCEMENT FIELD ABOUT YOU. I HAVE RECENTLY TESTED FOR THE WEST MEMPHIS POLICE DEPT.. I CONSIDER YOU AS MY MENTOR. IF I COULD LEARN HALF THE THINGS THAT YOU KNOW I FEEL THAT IT WOULD MAKE ME A BETTER POLICE OFFICER. IN CLOSING, I HOPE THAT I CAN ATTEND MORE OF YOUR CLASSES TO BETTER MY CAREER IN LAW ENFORCEMENT.

Hi Mr. Barger you have heard from my wife a couple of times so I thought
I would sign your guest book. I just want to tell you how much I enjoyed
your class and I hope that I get to take more. I think what you and Mr.
Ball do is great I seen his web page and it is cool I would like to see
him do mosses some day. I would like to sit down and talk with you some
time and really tell you what I felt that day in class when we seen the
tape on Mr. grimes I know you may not like to talk about it and I
understand but I would like to tell you how I felt that day. I hope your
dream comes true about the center if that would get built that would
be great for every body if you stay there and train people. Well I could
write a lot more but I guess I need to get off here take care of your
self and family I hope to see you later GOD bless you. Paul

Dear Mike, thanks for writing. Although I am sorry to hear you may not
teach for a while I am glad to hear that you may stay at Grimes for a
while. It will be a loss for those at the academy who will not be
influenced by you but at the same time I know that there is work to be
done at the unit. Any time you try to improve on some thing it is hard
to make the old schoolers understand the need. I know this from when I
went to EMT class. We were the first class to test both for national
and state registry. There were a lot of changes and we were caught in
the middle. Good luck on all that you choose to do and keep up the
dreams. They can make a difference and will. Thank you for the
encouraging words for Paul. He takes his duties and job very serious
and will do the best he can at all times under all situations. He is
looking forward to moving up. He wants to take all the classes and
extras he can. He had a good motivational speaker and teacher at the
academy. Thanks again for all you do.

My husband took your class at the academy in tucker. He is a c.o. for
ADC. He really enjoyed your classes and teaching and is looking forward
to attending more. He also hopes you get approved to teach children of
officers. He would like to bring our son Adam to one of your classes.
As his wife I would like to personally thank you for helping him and
teaching him not only the physical but also the emotional concepts that
will help him on the job and may help save his life some day. God
forbid it should ever come to that but if the situation were to ever
arise it's good to know that some one like you cared enough to give
your time to share your experience and knowledge with him. Thank you
Tammy Burnside wife of Paul Burnside.

Hi Mike! I don't know if you still remember me but I was one of the
instructors with Bruce Chapman who first trained you in HWC. It was at
Maryland at a Sheriff Training Center I believe. I haven't trained or
heard from Bruce in a long while. I'm sure he is doing well. I have
been really busy myself. I finally met Paul Castle and was introduced
to the C.A.R. System. The one you told me about. It's Great! I am a
Certified Police Instructor for the State of Connecticut so the Police
Academy had Paul Castle give myself and a group of 20 other Police
Instructors a 3 day training of what he has to offer. The Academy is
looking into possibly changing their curriculum to have C.A.R. as part
of recruit training. If not I’m definitely going to try and get into
the instructor course to teach my Department. Well I don’t want to take
up any more of your time. I would like to hear from you. If you don’t
remember me, that’s okay. Just think of me as another Law Enforcement
brother. STAY SAFE!
